Are you finding it difficult to work now? Or has this become a time of great creativity?
I do not find it difficult at all. I am actually doing more consistent work with all the extra unstructured time. I try to do a few fast paper paintings or work on the large canvases in progress everyday.
I feel very fortunate and grateful, now more than ever, to be able to channel my energy into making art.

Is your studio at home or outside, and if at home, is it a dedicated room or are you having to share it with other family members?
I have a large studio that is the entire downstairs basement in our home. It is very peaceful and private with a door to the outside. Right now, during our shelter in place, my husband uses the space so he can continue his gym workouts. But he only invades my space for a couple of hours every morning!
I did consider renting a dedicated industrial space and I am really glad now I did not make that switch or commitment. I really enjoy working at home. I am also doing Zoom yoga classes and meditate in my studio.

What is it you are working on now? Does it relate in any way to current events, or are you letting this be a time of releasing all that while the ideas flow?
In addition to the series of fast paper pieces, I am working on a painting called "Mercy" that is mostly in gold and silver.
I also started another large painting in my Babel Series. This one will be called "Babel III" or "One World" and yes, it is inspired by our current events. The original paintings were made last fall for the Art + Text shows at Fairfield County libraries.
They are mixed media, with collaged text from Asian newspapers that paint delivered from the west coast was packed in.
I have always been fascinated with the calligraphy of Eastern and non-western languages. I don't know what anything is saying, hence the title, Babel.
In my latest one, I'm using faces with the calligraphy. I plan to enter it in Maritime Garage Gallery's next show called DeFACEment.

Do you think this experience will permanently alter the way you create, or do you think you will go back to your way of creating art before, and if it will change you, in what way and why?
No, I don't think it will permanently alter my methods, my style and technique are what they are. It does deepen my spiritual connection to my work. Art is channeled energy and channeling that energy is a daily spiritual practice. The metallics and glitter I use, create reflective areas in the paintings and surfaces of shimmering light. Historically and now, reflections have to do with human beings communicating with the spirit world and connecting with life's deeper mysteries. Covid-19 is an unprecedented dark night and karmic mystery. The biggest change for me, is never taking for granted that art and good things can be contagious too.
