So much is happening in the world these days -- mostly changes that are beyond our control. Perhaps in 2020 you had the chance to explore and see your creativity explode and were inspired to try new paths of artistic endeavors. CameraWorks 2021 sought to show many types of photographic processes and methods and was open for all photographic mediums - film, digital, pinhole, lomography, photograms, encaustic, disposable, iphoneography, lenticular, photo transfers, videography.

Juror's Statement:
Photography is a broad church. Anything and everything goes. When you are faced with such a beautiful range of perspectives and executions, choosing ‘the best’ is tough. Where to start? I always begin with ‘visceral reaction’, move on to ‘clarity of message’, hover over ‘sheer beauty of execution’ and end with ‘was anything funny?’.
Why funny? Because it’s the most difficult.
This year’s entries hit all of my touch points and some. From the considered silver halide-based execution to the impromptu digital rendition, it was all there. Some were deliberate and some were accidental; all were supremely creative.

Signs of Compassion
Signs of Compassion

These individuals are reciting "Signs of Compassion”,
a poem by Emily Dickinson one word or phrase at a time,
in American Sign Language.
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
